Tony Tate
My name is Tony Tate. I am from the Houston area – a place called Baytown. I was born March 1, 1963 Tony Lovette Brown. I was adopted by my step dad and took his last name (Tate) when I was in the sixth grade.
I began playing music when I was 8 or 9 years old. I started with the guitar. I moved to the saxophone and piano when I got to the sixth grade. I did a couple of years of college got tired a and quit. After working a few years I joined the Navy. Shortly after joining I auditioned for the Navy Band program where I spent 19+ years.
Thanks to the Navy I have been all over the world and performed for thousands of people. I had a great time but I’m glad to be out. The year before joining the Navy I gave my life to the Lord. He has done a better job with it than I think I ever would have. He has taken me places using my talent. Not many people can say that their talent has allowed them to travel the world. It has been great, not just the navy, but my life. I have met and have friends all over the country.
I have faced hard times as well. I am divorced. It was one of the hardest things I have ever faced. It is one thing to say you trust the Lord. It is another to be in a situation where your marriage is falling apart and there seems to be nothing you can do about it. I learned a lot about Love during this time, mostly, that it didn’t flow in me the way it should have. Notice that Love was capitalized in that last sentence. That’s because I’m referring to Agape, God’s unconditional love, and God Himself, Jesus Christ. Things might have turned out differently if I had caught on to the Lord’s instruction, and, continued to trust Him. I let go of my faith.
I have two great kids who who are super intelligent. Their names are Gabriel and Kirsten and they live with their mother. They both love music. Perhaps one day they will develop into musicians. Mostly I hope they will grow in their faith in Jesus and strive to know Him.
I enjoy creating music more than most things I know how to do. However, I am not always doing it. I say most things because the thing I enjoy most is reading and studying God’s Word. That inspires me most and translates to my music. So usually when I write I usually have new experiences to draw from, and, new understanding from God’s Word.
I thank God for the talent he has given me and the desire to use is for the Kingdom of God. I believe Yeshua (Jesus) will return to the earth soon. I will use my talent to the best of my ability to know Him in everything I do until that time.
