On CDbaby.com I picked up a gospel record recently, The Way I Worship, by Johnny B. Williams. There are many young musicians through out the world who aspire to be stars, and, to live the life of a celebrity. So, it is refreshing when I come across a young and very talented musician like Johnny Williams who chooses to lift up the Lord Jesus with that talent, and, he is talented.
The album is a mix of new and old styles. As a contemporary record “The Way I Worship” certainly passes the test. There are subtle hip hop notions as well as real gospel flavors. It is exciting and uplifting to say the least. Also on this album you’ll find Johnny Williams bringing expert gospel singers to the forefront such as Kathy Taylor. She adds that staple sound that you’ll hear in any of the great gospel albums of old. She is featured on the track, “He’ll Pick Up The Pieces.” This is by far my favorite track on the record.
You will also find a very impacting letter that will convict you. It is in the form of a suicide note, read by Xnene Taylor. This letter is a message in itself that the church needs to hear. And Xene is incredible in her interpretation and delivery.
“We Reverence Your Name” features Erin Cortez, a contemporary psalm of praise and worship. Just like Kathy Taylor Erin delivers superbly in this genre of gospel music.
I would also like to mention the “Interlude” feature Johnny’s mother Mary. It serves as a reminder of how one so talented as Mr. Williams is guided to a right path in life. In the form of a phone call the message is delivered loud and clear.
This is a great album. My complements to Johnny B. Williams on a praise well done.
You can find this album on CDbaby.com and also iTunes.
